Pot Aloe vera gel – a natural source of antioxidants

Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) is widely spread around the world and it used in food cosmetic industry traditional medicine due to its high content bioactive compounds. Thus, this article investigated phenolic compounds of Romanian gel antioxidant capacity. The was extracted using 4 different solvents: methanol, ethanol, water, acetone. Total phenolics were measured by Folin-Ciocalteu method, total flavonoids aluminium chloride reaction, capacity DPPH radical-scavenging activity. profile compound determined Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy Liquid Chromatography-Diode Array Detection–Electro-Spray Ionization Mass Spectrometry. methanolic extract had a significantly higher activity, followed ethanolic, acetone extracts. also highest polyphenol content, while ethanolic flavonoid content. extracts contained 14 identified as 7 chromones (Aloesin, Neoaloesin, Aloinoside A, E, Aloe-emodin-glucoside, Isoaloeresin D, Methoxycoumaroyl-aloresin) 2 flavones (Luteolin-glucoside, Apigenin-glucoside), one hydroxycinnamic acid (Caffeic acid) anthrones (Aloin Aloin B, Emodin, Aloe-emodin). LC-MS results showed important quantities Aloesin, Aloeresin Aloe-emodin-glucoside FTIR analysis presence polysaccharides, pectins, anthraquinones, saponins.
